Aluminium extrusion fittings · 2 specifications · 2 pack sizes · 2 options in stock

Connectors and fittings for aluminium extrusion — corner brackets, T-nuts, hinges, handles. The parameters are listed in order of importance: the one at the top decides the most, and no amount of care further down makes up for getting it wrong.

This page lists 2 options: Specification Straight piece 47*16 mm / Straight piece 76*16*1.8 mm, Pack quantity 1–10 (2 options). From ¥0.28.

The parts of this item

Aluminium extrusion fittings: every part locates off the same slot

Figure 1 — The slot width decides which family of part you need — nuts and brackets for the European 8 mm slot and the Chinese-standard 6 mm slot do not interchange.

What each parameter decides

Every parameter below shows the real range available on this page, and what goes wrong if you pick it wrong. Work through them in this order and you will not go far wrong.

How to choose, step by step

  1. Match the extrusion series — Fittings are made to a slot width: European 6 / 8 / 10 and the national standard slot, and they do not interchange.
  2. Pick the connection — Right angles take corner brackets, in-line joins take joining plates, adjustable angles take hinges, and anything carrying load takes a heavy bracket.
  3. Then size and quantity — A corner is normally 2 brackets and 4 T-nuts, so multiply by the number of corners. Fittings are sold by the pack — keep a few spare, restocking takes time.

You can order by part number or by selecting the parameters. The part number is fastest, but it does not always encode every parameter — the selector on this page is the authority.

7 common mistakes

  1. T-nuts go in first. They have to be in the slot before the bracket goes on, and this is the most common reason a frame gets taken apart again.
  2. The bracket hole spacing has to match the slot. If it does not, the screw goes in at an angle and pulls further out of square as you tighten it.
  3. Do not use small brackets where load goes. They locate, they do not carry. Load paths need a heavy bracket or a triangular gusset.
  4. Budget 2 brackets per joint. One bracket pivots around its screw; two are what fixes the angle.
  5. Measure before you order. Take the old part off and measure it, or send us a photo with the caliper reading — that beats guessing from a model number every time.
  6. Everything here is in millimetres. Where a size is imperial, convert it: 1" = 25.4 mm, 1/4" = 6.35 mm, 3/32" = 2.38 mm.
  7. The price is per pack. This page has several 1–10 (2 options) options, so compare the quantity per pack before you compare prices.

When to replace it

You do not replace this until it fails — but "still looks usable" and "still reliable" are two different things. Any one of these and it is time:

  • The bracket is deformed or the holes are elongated — it has already slipped under load and tightening it will not bring the angle back.
  • The T-nut spins in the slot, will not bite, or the body has cracked.
  • A hinge has visible play and the door or panel is starting to sag.

Fitting and use

Before you start

  • Confirm the extrusion standard first: European slot 6 / 8 / 10 and the Chinese national slot are different shapes, and fittings do not cross over.
  • T-nuts and slide nuts have to go into the slot before the bracket. Once the bracket is on, the slot is blocked and the only way in is to take it apart.
  • Blow the swarf and burrs out of the slot. One chip under the nut tilts it, and the screw goes in crooked.

Fitting

  • Drop the T-nut in at an angle, turn it 90° to lock it, then start the screw. Pushing it in flat does not work.
  • Run the screw down by hand first to be sure the nut is seated square, then tighten with the hex key. Going straight to a driver spins the nut and chews the slot.
  • A corner takes 2 brackets and 4 T-nuts. Tighten diagonally in stages rather than taking one screw all the way down.
  • Locate the long side first and the short side second; square the frame, check that the diagonals match, then tighten everything.

After fitting

  • For moving parts such as hinges and handles, cycle them a few times unloaded and check for rubbing and for a smooth return.
  • Check the load-bearing joints: small brackets are for location only. Where load actually goes, use a heavy bracket or a triangular gusset.
  • Re-torque once after the machine has run for a while. Extrusion screws do work slightly loose under vibration, and that is normal.

Four things not to do

  • Do not substitute a plain hex nut for a T-nut. A plain nut has no bearing face in the slot and spins as soon as you tighten it.
  • Do not drill and tap the extrusion slot instead of using a bracket. The wall is thin, the thread will not hold, and the profile splits.
  • Do not hang a cantilever load on a small bracket. It is designed to locate, and under load it simply bends.
  • Do not use a cheater bar. The slot lips crush, and once they are deformed that length of extrusion is scrap.

Matching parts

  • T-nuts and socket head screws — the standard pairing
  • End caps and slot covers — to close it off
